Thomas the Tank Engine has left the Island of Sodor to greet the children of Oklahoma City.

Meet Thomas and Sir Topham Hatt, the "Fat Controller" of the railway, with a 25-minute train ride Friday through Sunday, at the Oklahoma Railway Museum, 3400 N.E. Grand.

The museum's "Day Out with Thomas" welcomes passengers of all ages and is based on the well-known storybook and television engine created by the Rev. W. Awdry. Beyond just a train ride, this weekend's outing will feature storytelling, videos, live music and arts and crafts at the museum's Imagination Station, filled with children's activities sure to "engineer miles of smiles."

The Oklahoma Railway Museum has a passenger train, red caboose, an authentic dining car and a Pullman car as part of its regular display.

Beginning at 9 a.m., Thomas departs every 50 minutes. The last train ride leaves the station at 4:30 p.m. Tickets are assigned by time and passenger car. Event organizers recommend passengers arrive at least one hour before their scheduled departure times.

Each of Thomas' cars are individually equipped, some are enclosed with air conditioning, while others have windows that open. Passengers can also enjoy an open-air train trip, but if child conductors want their seats closest to Thomas, ask for Car A when purchasing tickets.

"Day Out with Thomas" is all-ages. Tickets are $18 for children 2 and older, and $15 on Friday for all ages. For tickets or more information, call (866) 468-7630. "Natalie Burkey
