Children bring their imaginations to life with characters created in the Paseo on Sunday.
Local artists will help children construct Halloween costumes inside "playshops" set up inside Paseo galleries and businesses for the Magic Lantern Celebration.
Glitter, paper, paint and other creative supplies will be provided to spark kid-crafted wearable art.
"With artists to help in the creative process, all kinds of critters and characters come to life for children," said Lorrie Keller, Theatre Upon a StarDanceSwan's artistic event organizer.
Keller said artists will be on hand to assist, but will let the children's "natural creativity" guide their costume designs.
"All of the adult artists step back and watch the unexpected surprises children put into their creations," she said. "The unique materials and the season inspire children to make something authentic and extraordinary. A costume that reflects their ideas and personalities."
The celebration starts at 2:30 p.m. in the Paseo Arts District, near N.W. 30th and Dewey. The costume creativity will culminate at 6 p.m. with a "Spin n' Sparkle" street dance around a giant painted pumpkin.
Children and parents can also make magic lanterns, candy jewelry and paint pumpkins or their faces.
The Magic Lantern Celebration is free and open to adult-accompanied children of all ages. For more information, call 525-2688.
