Governor Brad Henry today declared a State of Emergency for all of Oklahoma's counties.

Tornadoes, rain and flooding have been widespread throughout Oklahoma since May 4.

"The State Emergency Operations Plan has been activated and our emergency management officials are closely monitoring the situation," Henry said in a statement.

Providing a formal mechanism for local governments to seek reimbursement for recovery costs through the state's public assistance program, Henry's declaration also serves as prelude to requesting federal aid should that become necessary.

"It is still far too early to say whether damages in the state will be eligible for federal assistance, but this is the first step in case of that eventuality," Henry said.

The State Emergency Operations Center remains activated because of the threat of severe weather and the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management remains in contact with emergency officials in the affected areas, Henry's office said.
