Join the movement to end multiple sclerosis Saturday at the annual Oklahoma City Walk MS, presented by the Oklahoma chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

The organization expects about 1,000 walkers to attend the event, which steps off at the Oklahoma City Zoo, 2101 N.E. 50th.

"We invite all people who have any connection to MS to join us in the movement to end this disease," said Lucy Fraser, director of development for the organization. "I think there are a lot more MS connections than people talk about, because it is a disease that is very different in every person."

FREE HOT DOGS
Participants can walk as many laps as they choose around zoo's 1-mile or half-mile routes. At the finish line, walkers can enjoy free hot dogs and entertainment by Oklahoma guitarist Edgar Cruz.

"We encourage people to take their time. It's more of a stroll through the zoo," Fraser said. "The focus here is for people to gather together in support of curing this disease."

Multiple sclerosis " a disease that disables the nervous system and causes numbness, blindness and paralysis " affects more than 21,000 people in Oklahoma and 2.5 million worldwide, according to the organization, which donates all event funds to support direct services and research for the disease.

Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. at the zoo. The walk officially begins at 9 a.m. Walkers can participate individually or as a team. Registration is free. To register, call (800) 344-4867. "Caitlin Harrison
