Show your patriotism and support Saturday at Del City's annual Armed Forces Day and Shriners Parade.

One of the largest of its kind in Oklahoma, the parade celebrates and honors both veterans and active duty military men and women with floats, vendors and a car and bike show.

"Everybody loves a parade," said Jim DePuy, director of community services for the City of Del City. "A lot of participants will be there " everything from churches and Boy Scouts and neighborhood watch groups."

The parade, sponsored by the City of Del City and the Del City Chamber of Commerce, also includes senior personnel from Tinker Air Force Base, state and local government officials, members from all military branches, a Navy aircraft flyover and Fort Sill's Half Section, which is an authentic World War I recreation of a horse-drawn canon section.

CAR SHOW
The car show will include specialty autos, military vehicles, race cars and motorcycles, and visitors can vote on their favorite. Paradegoers can also enter their own vehicle for judging in the show. Registration is $15 in advance and $20 at the show for cars, and $10 in advance and $15 at the show for motorcycles. Show proceeds will benefit American Gold Star Mothers, an organization that helps parents who have lost a son or daughter in the war.

The 10 a.m. parade begins its 2-mile route at Sunnylane Road, north of Interstate 40, proceeds south to S.E. 29th Street, then turns east to Linda Lane. The car show will be held in the parking lot of Arvest Bank along the parade route. Parade and car show admission are free. For more information, call 671-2815.
