Oklahoma City names street for 'Queen of Rockabilly'

The "Queen of Rockabilly" performed for downtown crowds this afternoon at a ceremony organized to formally dedicate an Oklahoma City street named in her honor.

The newly named Wanda Jackson Way is adjacent to Flaming Lips Alley and intersects Mickey Mantle Drive in Bricktown.

After accolades from Mayor Mick Cornett and other city and state leaders touting the singer's historic role in American music and a short ribbon-cutting ceremony, Jackson, 71, thanked the crowd and kicked off a short concert with "Mean, Mean Man."

Jackson toured with Elvis Presley in the 1950s and is known as one of the first female rock 'n' roll singers thanks to hits like "Let's Have a Party" and "Fujiyama Mama."

When asked about how she felt about her new "Way" while signing autographs backstage after the ceremony, Jackson laughed and told the crowd she was used to "getting her way." "Joe Wertz
