Four-leaf clovers, leprechauns, pots of gold under a rainbow and the jig are all things that come to mind when one thinks of Ireland and St. Patrick's Day.

Celebrating the rich cultural heritage, Jean Hill and her Irish Dance Troupe will perform traditional Irish dances at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Bethany Library, 3510 N. Mueller.
During the presentation, participants will watch as the historically costumed dancers perform traditional soft- and hard-shoe dances such as the reel, jig and hornpipes. Hill will demonstrate traditional Irish instruments used to accompany the dances and teach participants to play them as well. Hill also will share Irish stories and sayings, and teach attendees a simple Irish jig.

Assembling at the library directly after the Oklahoma City St. Patrick's Day Parade in Bricktown, the 16-member troupe has dancers that range from 7 years old to adult and skill levels that sweep from beginners to prize winners.

A certified Irish dance instructor who has taught in Oklahoma City since 1998, Hill is always proud whenever her students perform and show other people a new experience.

"Most of my students have Irish ancestry, though that it is not necessary for people interested in wanting to learn more about Irish dance and culture," she said.

The event is free and refreshments will be served. For more information, call 789-8363."LeighAnne Manwarren
