There are precious few chances to leave home in pajamas, but kids can trade bedtime for story time by joining Miss Alma and her puppet friends at the Warr Acres Library, 5901 N.W. 63rd.

Ventriloquist Alma Brown and her puppets have been learning a second language and are eager to share with children and parents the importance of bilingualism from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

"I have one little puppet who has learned Spanish, and he has a little song he has mastered," Brown said.

She said Warr Acres is increasingly becoming a bilingual community, so she wants to help families use the library to find material and resources in order to learn and teach second languages in the home.

By singing songs and playing games with the children, Brown said Thursday's story hour is a relaxed time for parents as their kids learn more about language and the importance of reading.

"Any kind of learning is good for children. Reading and playing with them at that age is so important," she said. "Putting off learning a second language (for young children), you lose valuable time."

The event is free and is geared to kids from 2-5 years old, but parents and siblings of all ages are welcome. To register or for more information, call 721-2616."LeighAnne Manwarren
