The new John Marshall High School will begin the fall school year with a new principal, effective today. Corey Harris, a Tulsa native, replaces Trina Liles, who has been appointed to another district school.

New Oklahoma City Public Schools Superintendent John Q. Porter, who officially began work July 2, announced the administrative changes at a board meeting the same day. Board members unanimously approved his plan, which called for immediate changes in the new John Marshall's leadership and direction.

In a statement, Porter said student achievement and quality education are the foundations that drive decisions in the district.

"We thank Ms. Liles and her entire staff for their hard work every day at John Marshall, and we know that each of them will greatly contribute to student achievement at new learning environments," he said.

EXPERIENCE

Harris, who graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Tulsa, most recently served as principal at Pre Eminent Charter School in Raleigh, N.C. As principal of Longview Middle School in Memphis, Tenn., he helped turn the under-performing school around, getting it off the state's priority list.

Terry Brown will oversee the new John Marshall, Classen School for Advanced Studies and Oklahoma Centennial High School as new executive director of student performance for the district. Before joining OKCPS, he worked as a principal at a college preparatory school in Memphis, Tenn.

Liles, who served as principal at the new John Marshall since the school opened under construction last fall, was appointed principal of Southeast High School.
