The Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition supports visual artists living in Oklahoma and promotes public interest and understanding of the arts.

Through their unique grants program, OVAC is able to invest $15,000 annually directly to individual Oklahoma artists to help begin or complete projects that can be instrumental in the advancement of their careers.

Recently, four Oklahoma artists were awarded grants for their projects:

Gloria Galasso of Ponca City Lori Oden o f Oklahoma City Nathan Opp of Tulsa Don  Thompson of Tulsa

The artists receiving grant awards will be using them for a variety of projects.

Galasso is a weaver working with traditional Native American weaving techniques. Her grant funds will help her get to the Chimayo Weaving Workshop in New Mexico to further her knowledge on the weaving process.

Oden, a photographer, is working towards an exhibition of her nineteenth century process photographs to be held at the State Capitol in Summer of 2008. Her grant funds will help her to acquire the materials needed for her project.

Painter Opp is also working towards an exhibition, using grant funds to ship his work to Biola University in California.

Thompson, a photographer, is working towards an exhibition to be held at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center in February of 2008.
