The City of Oklahoma City will host a public meeting tomorrow night at 6 p.m. to share information about the proposed 2007 General Obligation Bond Program.

The meeting will be held at City Hall, 200 N. Walker, on the third floor in the council chambers.

"We think its important to engage citizens," said Kristy Yager, public information and marketing director. "We know citizens are interested in repairing the streets and more than half (of the proposed bond money) is dedicated to street repair."

Bond propositions were identified based on the 2006 citizen survey feedback as well as council strategic priorities, city manager priorities, departmental priorities and impact on the operating budget.

The bond election is scheduled for Dec. 11 and an additional public meeting will be held in November. The bond is set at $835 million currently.

Yager said typically there is not as much participation by the public in the citywide meetings as in the ward meetings.

"We want the citizens to understand the bond issue and to tell their neighbor and help spread the word," Yager said. "It's important for the citizens to know prior to the City Council setting the allocation."

The money would be spent on public works (including street repair), police, fire department, transit and economic development. Each topic will be discussed in five- to- seven- minute presentations at the meeting.

The last bond issue was in 2000.
