The first public meeting regarding Oklahoma City's General Obligation Fund exceeded expectations, said City Public Relations and Marketing Director Kristy Yager.
Held at City Hall in the council chambers with the rows of seats filled, the public listened to presentations from various city officials regarding proposed allocations for public works, police, fire, parks and recreation and economic development.
During the presentations, participants had the opportunity to write questions for the officials to answer, moderated by Jennifer Eve.
"It was a great turnout," Yager said. "They asked great questions on subjects across the board."
The most basic question " asked first " was from where the money for General Obligation Fund comes which laid the groundwork for the rest of the question-and-answer session which queried details about specific projects.
Currently, the list of proposed projects has a grand total construction cost of $760 million while the bond has been set at $835 million. More than half of the money would be spent on street repair. Mill levies have not yet been set.
The City Council will finalize the allocations in September. There will be another public meeting in November preceding the tentative Dec. 11 vote. -Stefanie Brickman
