class=MsoNormal style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt">The extremes some people take can make for amazing documentaries "” and certainly inventing kingdoms and accompanying lingo has to rank up there "” but "Darkon" doesn't quite hit that, even if it occasionally approaches. Unlike, say, "American Movie" or "The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters," there's no real hero to get behind (although there is a villain in Kenyon Wells, who takes the game so seriously, he starts making it no fun for others).

 

And while there is some entertainment to be garnered out of people doing things that seem alien to most viewers, it's hard to laugh at them for more than a few minutes, because these are damaged people. You certainly can't laugh with them, either, because most of them seem mired in various levels of depression.

 

In the end, "Darkon" is worth seeing, although it lends too much time to battle footage. Just don't expect it to conquer your world.
