The University of Oklahoma football team kicked off the season tonight in record-breaking fashion as the Sooners beat North Texas 79-10 at the Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.

Two redshirt freshman football players, quarterback Sam Bradford from Oklahoma City and running back DeMarco Murray from Las Vegas, each set individual records in the contest.

Bradford threw for 350 first-half yards breaking his quarterback coach Josh Heupel's 315-yard performance in 2000. (Ironically, Bradford wears the same No. 14 jersey as Heupel.) Bradford completed 20 of 22 passes in the first half, and threw one more in the second half before second-team quarterback Joey Halzle took over signal-calling duties.

Bradford's string of 18 consecutive completed passes tied former Sooner quarterback Jason White's 2004 Nebraska performance.  He finished the game with 363 passing yards, three touchdown passes and 21 of 23 passes.

Murray scored four first-half touchdowns, setting a record for a debut. The running back gained 87 yards on 17 attempts and five total touchdowns.

The Sooners' 79 points "“ 11 touchdowns and a safety "“ set an Owen Field record. In 1980, OU scored 82 points in Boulder against Colorado. The 79 points are the most scored by a Bob Stoops (pictured) coached team.

Wide receiver Juaquin Iglesias led the team with 128 yards on seven passes. In OU's first offensive possession, Bradford threw a pass behind the line of scrimmage which Iglesias ran for 41 yards; the play was credited as a run giving the Killeen, Texas native a combined 169 yards. (And had the pass been ahead of the line, Bradford's debut would have been a 404-yard performance.) Malcolm Kelly scored two touchdowns and caught four passes for 118 yards.

Kicker Garrett Hartley was a perfect 11 for 11 on his point-after touchdown attempts and kicked off 12 times during the game.
