"The Last Legion" follows the fortunes of a fifth-century Roman boy named Romulus Augustus (young Thomas Sangster), the last of Julius Caesar's bloodline and the last Caesar of Rome. After the Goths conquer the city-state, the last loyal remnants of the empire (including Colin Firth and Ben Kingsley) are forced north to Britannia on a quest involving the magic sword Excalibur (which, it turns out in this version, was forged for Julius Caesar himself).
Yelling, chopping and inspirational political oratory ensue. Directed by Doug Lefler, a guy who spent a lot of his career working on "Xena: Warrior Princess," "Legion" has a similar feel of pasted-together, slightly modified formulaic clich
