Peep World

Puts a fair amount of ‘fun’ in ‘dysfunction’

Comedy

Rod Lott
Ever pulled a pan of Jell-O out of the fridge before it's done? It still tastes OK, but it feels shapeless, not quite formed, just shy of the real thing. That's what the comedy "Peep World" feels like. I still enjoyed it, even if it didn't quite incubate as long as it should have.

Take Me Home Tonight

More than just a great soundtrack.

Comedy

Rod Lott
If your mind reads the title "Take Me Home Tonight" and immediately follows it up with "I don't wanna let you go till you see the light," you're a part of the audience most likely to enjoy this movie.

Call Me Bwana

Bob Hope goes to Africa in a minor, mindless comedy.

Comedy

Rod Lott
From the producers of the 007 franchise comes 1963's "Call Me Bwana," a harmless, near-pointless spy spoof starring, of all people, Bob Hope.

The Sweet Life

'Sweet' tastes awful bitter

Comedy

Rod Lott
What's a cult-film company like Synapse doing with a romantic comedy like this? I'm still wondering.

Wild Cherry

So bad, Rumer Willis is in it

Comedy

Rod Lott
Just when you think "Wild Cherry" is a gender-flipped version of "American Pie," it proves your theory true.

Cedar Rapids

Yes, Virginia, profane comedy can feel cozy.

Comedy

Phil Bacharach
Stories of apple-cheeked innocents corrupted by the big, bad world are as old as the dawn of curfew.

Hall Pass

There's something about this sex comedy: It's really funny!

Comedy

Rod Lott
That semen-in-the-hair scene in "There's Something About Mary" was both the best and worst thing to happen to Bobby and Peter Farrelly.

Rubber

You'll never be 'tired' of this cult item

Comedy

Rod Lott
In short, "Rubber" is about a killer tire. In truth, it's so much more.

Old Dracula

Vampires and Playmates. What else do you need?

Comedy

Rod Lott
You can’t teach an “Old Dracula” new tricks, but it never hurts to try.

Ben Bailey: Road Rage ... and Accidental Ornithology

Just pull over here, please

Comedy

Rod Lott

If you know Ben Bailey at all, you know he’s the host of “Cash Cab,” perhaps cable’s most unique game show, in that it takes place in a moving taxi, with Bailey at the wheel.

Advance to the Rear / Don’t Go Near the Water / The Honeymoon Machine

Old-school military comedies ahoy!

Comedy

Rod Lott
Did “M*A*S*H” do in the military comedy, or was it the unwinnable Vietnam War?

Burning Palms

A near-excellent work of jet-black comedy

Comedy

Rod Lott
Imagine if the storylines of Robert Altman’s “Short Cuts” weren’t so intertwined, and then separated and structured in a comic-book framework akin to George A. Romero’s “Creepshow.”

Kaboom

Too bad it’s not based on the Atari 2600 game

Comedy

Rod Lott
Gregg Araki is getting better.

Dahmer vs. Gacy

A killer comedy, pun intended

Comedy

Rod Lott
I was prepared to hate “Dahmer vs. Gacy,” but God help me, I just couldn’t do it.

Hold On!

Like the Beatles, only with lesser music and more entertaining filmmaking

Comedy

Rod Lott
From 1966, "Hold On!" is basically Herman's Hermits' version of The Beatles' "A Hard Day's Night," but with music that's not as good, yet is more fun to watch. Yeah, I said it.
