Teachers, taxpayers told conflicting stories

Letters to the Editor

Shelly Campbell
I was disappointed, but not surprised, to learn that the stipends for National Board Certified Teachers had been cut from the education budget.

Reader refutes claim

Letters to the Editor

K.A. Straughn
Concerning the Rev. Steve Kern and origins, Nathaniel Batchelder writes: “When religious people challenge sci ence, they are out of their knowledge area, and they look foolish. Worse, they drive reasonable people out of churches because reasonable people are repelled by calls to believe magical nonsense. … More people would go (to church) if religious leaders would stick to the saving possibilities of faith” (Letters, “Religion should stick to faith,” June 8, Oklahoma Gazette).

Agree and disagree

Letters to the Editor

Tom Furlong
I’m in complete agreement with the Rev. Steve Kern (“Counterpoint: Soul concern,” June 22, Gazette) about resisting on all fronts the idea that homosexuality is the norm.

‘Just asking'

Letters to the Editor

Nathaniel Batchelder
The Rev. Steve Kern’s Commentary (“Counterpoint: Soul concern,” June 22, Oklahoma Gazette) restates the belief shared by his wife, Rep. Sally Kern, that homosexuality is the sin that will bring down America for having displeased God.

‘Respecting teachers’

Letters to the Editor

Joe Quigley
Regarding Clifton Adcock’s cover story (“Super intentions,” June 22, Gazette): “Other legislative victories (Superintendent of Public Instruction Janet) Barresi counted include … a measure ending trial de novo, which allows a teacher to appeal his or her firing in court.”

Ignorance isn't bliss

Letters to the Editor

Rob Bennett
As a longtime reader, I realize you have to post letters from both sides of an argument, but when one side is clearly ignorant, why put it in your publication?

Keeping up appearances

Letters to the Editor

Lechelle Calderwood
The designers did a great job in the June 8 Oklahoma Gazette issue, especially on the spread for the Best of OKC entries.

‘Chain’ reaction

Letters to the Editor

Lissa Wohltmann
Regarding “Why chains suck” (Jenny Coon Peterson, June 15, Gazette), I haven’t quite broken the habit of eating at chain restaurants, but I’m getting close.

Woody wagon

Letters to the Editor

Robert Oxford
After reading Rod Lott’s review of Woody Allen’s “Midnight in Paris” (“Wood repair,” June 8, Gazette), I was puzzled: Normally, film critics focus on the whole of the work, examining it formally as well as contextually.

When you assume ...

Letters to the Editor

M.G. Oxsen
I do not have a problem with evolution; I have a problem with those Darwinian evolutionists who then make the assumption that life just “happened.” And it is insulting to accuse someone’s comments of being ignorant just because they disagree with you or hold different ideas.

Adam and Eve 101

Letters to the Editor

Merle D. Wright
The points of view have been going on for weeks in the Gazette about the teaching of creationism in Oklahoma’s public schools, and it’s clear that the creationists need to start at the beginning before challenging the evolution-of-mankind science.

How Manilow can you go?

Letters to the Editor

Lana Hughes
Regarding Online Editor Stephen Carradini’s review (“A comprehensive overview of the ‘Copacabana’ hitmaker’s latest,” June 8, okgazette.com) of the album “15 Minutes” by Barry Manilow:
