Leftist Hollywood

Letters to the Editor

Richard Hampel
I would like to compliment the Phil Bacharach review of The Company You Keep (Film, April 24, Oklahoma Gazette) for two big reasons.

Demonizing rich people

Letters to the Editor

David Hull
President Obama’s approval rating is north of 50 percent. Seriously?

Rich folks pay plenty

Letters to the Editor

Brad Duncan
D.W. Tiffee’s Feb. 13 letter to Oklahoma Gazette, “A tax cut to die for,” makes two misleading statements that represent the typical liberal spin regarding tax assessments. The first statement was, “The bottom 20 percent pay an effective state and local rate of 10.3 percent vs. 4.6 percent for the top 1 percent.” The second was, “Fair to Republicans always means the poor paying more and the rich paying less.” Sounds as if the “poor” are being terribly put upon while those “wascally rich” are making out like bandits as usual, huh?

Teeing off about trivia

Letters to the Editor

Kyle Lucas
Interesting. “Trivial pursuits” (Louis Fowler, April 10, Oklahoma Gazette) about bar trivia, reads: “Arguably the most popular in the metro is The Lost Ogle’s 8 p.m. Tuesday-night trivia ...” How do you define “popular”?

Crossing a line

Letters to the Editor

Kevin Michaels
I think you have crossed a line with your last several issues. I am referring to your eagerness to use profanity (F-bombs) in articles, in quotes (still not appropriate) as well as others.

Bad taste

Letters to the Editor

Kate C. Arnold
I was excited to see your article covering the wonderful Variety Care nonprofit (Rachael Cervenka, “Capitol care,” March 20, Oklahoma Gazette). The work they are doing is truly needed, as Oklahoma is consistently among the 10 states with the highest teen pregnancy rates.

Don't bet on it

Letters to the Editor

Cal Hobson
In reference to the article by C.G. Niebank III about problem gambling in Oklahoma (”Losing bet,” March 13, Oklahoma Gazette), it is true that more money is needed to deal with this issue. As the story indicated, only $750,000 is earmarked to help those addicted to gaming at Oklahoma’s 117 casinos, four racetracks and dozens of bingo parlors.

How ’bout more guns?

Letters to the Editor

Jack Bowen
The National Rifle Association is right, but not right enough. I believe the Second Amendment guarantee to bear arms is virtually God-given and the framers of the Constitution merely put it on paper.

Contraception and population

Letters to the Editor

Brandon Wertz
In response to “Embryonic” by Dr. Dominic M. Pedulla (Letters, Oklahoma Gazette, March 27), I have to admit that I am taken aback by a man of science being so disconnected from the idea that unchecked procreation will not have negative consequences in the long term.

Poor figures, poor logic

Letters to the Editor

Thomas L. Furlong
“Figures lie and liars figure” couldn’t be more true than the use of numbers in “The Gap” (Rachel Curtis, April 3, Oklahoma Gazette), which would have us believe there’s a widening gulf between the haves and the have-nots. This is more agenda-driven, left-wing class-warfare crap.

Willful ignorance of science

Letters to the Editor

Jordan Jay
Rev. Kern, your March 13 letter, “What evolutionists fear” (Oklahoma Gazette), betrays a fundamental misunderstanding of evolutionary theory. Spontaneous generation was an incorrect scientific hypothesis that Louis Pasteur did, indeed, disprove. However, to equate spontaneous generation and the current definition of abiogenesis is disingenuous. Spontaneous generation referred to the idea that individual present-day organisms could arise from nonliving matter, such as maggots seeming to arise from rotten meat out of thin air.

Marriage equality is up for grabs

Letters to the Editor

Wanda Jo Stapleton
“Equal Justice Under Law” is engraved on the front of the U.S. Supreme Court building in Washington, D.C. To me, the phrase — when applied to marriage — means “marriage equality,” both same-sex marriage and heterosexual marriage.

Embryonic

Letters to the Editor

Dr. Dominic Pedulla
Recent research has clarified how emergency contraceptives, or ECs, work.

Real must-see TV

Letters to the Editor

Susan K. Schmidt
We all can agree there is too much violence in the U.S. Each of us is damaged by the constant violence we witness, which includes steady exposure to violence on television. How can we get the writers, directors and actors to focus on more uplifting fare in place of the steady diet of murders while still protecting our freedom of speech?

McClendon's genius

Letters to the Editor

Vince Orza
As you’ve heard, Aubrey McClendon is stepping down as CEO of Chesapeake Energy. Aubrey and his former partner, Tom Ward (who now heads SandRidge Energy), own KSBI Channel 52.
