IndianGiver — Plafond EP

If you were to peruse the “About” section of IndianGiver’s Facebook page, you’ll notice how the instruments attributed to each of the Oklahoma City band’s five members are described with downright flippancy: Dylan Jordan plays “sticks & animal skins,” while Jazzton Rodriguez earns his keep with “shanties & loud noises,” and so on.

Various artists — Never Give Up: Celebrating 10 Years of The Postal Service

Few indie bands have had the impact on current music that The Postal Service has. Even fewer have done so with only one album.

Big Worm — Bench All-Stars

Fans of the comedy classic Friday may recognize the name Big Worm, but the Big Worm behind Bench All-Stars is rooted not in South Central L.A., but on the streets of Oklahoma City.

Code 22 — Going Soft: The Acoustic Album!

The guys of Oklahoma City’s Code 22 seem like a likable group of fellas. Their latest release, Going Soft: The Acoustic Album!, is likable enough as well — so likable that on first listen, I took its clean, acoustic sound and clear, unstressed vocals as an alternative praise-and-worship band.

Eureeka — Polysynthetic Fields

It’s always refreshing to hear music that embraces its own eccentricity, yet presents it in an accessible and meek fashion. Eureeka — the Norman-based duo of Jordan Vargas and Devin Wahl — has tapped into this rarified air on its self-released EP, Polysynthetic Fields.

SXSW, Okie-style

Planning to catch your favorite Okie bands in Austin this year? Tote this handy list along.

By Matt Carney March 6th, 2012

Oklahoma’s gonna hit Austin hard this year. Real hard.

Forty-four bands hard, in fact. And those are just the ones OKSee’s got listed so far. Thanks to the super-swell folks at Buffalo Lounge, Friends Bar at 208 E. Sixth will be the focal-point hangout for Okies at this year’s installment of South by Southwest, boasting seven different music showcases. They are as follows.

Tuesday
Oklahoma Film + Interactive + Music Event
4-7 p.m.

Okie Soundcheck presented by CNGnow.com
8 p.m.-2 a.m.

Wednesday
Sax, Clogs, and Rock ’n’ Roll
noon-5 p.m.

Backyard Bash presented by CNGnow.com
5-8 p.m.

ACM@UCO Showcase
8 p.m.-2 a.m.

Thursday
ACM@UCO Day Party
noon-5 p.m.

Oklahoma Showcase
8 p.m.-2 a.m.

You can find more information about these showcases at thebuffalolounge.com, or below.

OKSee is also excited to announce the return of former skipper Stephen Carradini and the addition of regular Gazette music contributor Joshua Boydston to our SXSW coverage. We’ll be down there live-blogging all week long, so be sure to check back here — and on Twitter at @okgazette, @scarradini and @okmattcarney — for photos and write-ups from Austin, starting next Tuesday.

Now on to the good part: OKSee’s been in touch with a ton of local musicians in a concerted effort to list all the shows — official and unofficial, Buffalo Lounge and otherwise — they’ll be playing during their visit to Austin. We’ll be updating this listing as shows are added, so please feel free to email me at mcarney[at]okgazette[dot]com if your band adds or has to cancel any shows.

See y’all in Austin!
