Bike to it

By Jenny Coon Peterson May 21st, 2010
Tomorrow is Bike to Work Day. So, who's hopping on their Huffy and pedaling to work? Not me, suckers " I'll be in San Francisco.

Honestly, I live five blocks from these illustrious Gazette offices, so every day should be Bike to Work Day for me. Except it's not. My bike weighs approximately 15 tons, and the last thing I want to do after work is struggle up the slight hill that passes the middle school near my house (which is always swarming with kids), only to be laughed at as my skirt flies up in my face and gives everyone a "birds and the bees" lesson.

This is ridiculous, I know. And it's not like I'm anti-bike " I schlep to the gym before the sun for spin classes. Instead, I'm cowed from my bike by middle schoolers. Feel free to laugh.

Bike to Work Day, despite my lameness, is a really cool idea. In the metro, the Association of Central Oklahoma Governments is handling to logistics and activities surrounding the pedal-pushers (like group rides if your office is just too far). ACOG's Bike to Work page includes routes and safety tips.
