I sing exactly one karaoke song: "Fancy" by Reba McEntire. And I sing it in an exceedingly poor imitation of "twang." I also have to be pretty exceedingly drunk, so there's that, too.
Karaoke is a strange thing. I've been learning more about it as I plan my next trip (to Japan, karaoke's home), and the more I read, the more I like it. It's strange, yes, but also silly and fun.
Make that silly, fun and for a cause, if you consider Canterbury Choral Society
's upcoming Canterbury Karaoke event.
Canterbury Karaoke is a ticketed event for "young professionals" (hey, that's me!) who "want to make an impact on the Oklahoma City arts scene" (me again!). It's scheduled from 7:30 to 11 p.m. Sept. 10 on the rooftop of 1015 N. Broadway.
Tickets are $10 in advance, or $12 at the door, and that includes all the karaoke you can handle, two free drinks, food and door prizes. The proceeds will go toward the expensive equipment needed to stage Canterbury's stage productions.
