Weekend roundup

Chocolate + Harry Potter = happy Jenny

By Jenny Coon Peterson February 3rd, 2011

Lots going on this weekend, guys, so let’s get right to it.

First up: chocolate. The Norman Firehouse Art Center is hosting the 29th annual Chocolate Festival from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. That’s more than three hours of chocolate, which I totally approve.

The chocolaty event is at OU’s Forum Building, 1704 Asp, and includes the chocolate creations of area Willy Wonkas. All proceeds benefit the nonprofit Firehouse Art Center, so you can tell yourself you’re indulging for a good cause.

There are two levels of tickets available: $30 for 15 chocolate samples in a one-hour session (10:30-11:30 a.m.) and $20 for 10 chocolate samples running in half-hour sessions from 11:30 a.m. on. Choices, choices.

Next up, my true love: Harry Potter. This Saturday, the Oklahoma Wizards League, known as OWL, which, funny thing, is what Hogwarts students take in their fifth year. It’s a very stressful test that only pales in comparison to the N.E.W.T.S., which … I’m going on too much about HP, right? Where was I?

OK, back on track. The OWL is holding its third annual wizard rock charity ball. Yes! And it’s called the Hogwarts Hootenanny. Double yes! It’s 7 p.m. Saturday at Oklahoma City University’s McDaniel University Center.

The Hogwarts Hootenanny will include musical performances from such HP-themed acts as The Whomping Willows and The Sugarquills, as well as a local wizard rock group Into the Pensieve. Side note: You guys have no idea how much I want to talk about the HP references in these names.

The event will also include a silent auction (called the Muffliato Auction!) with HP-themed items. Proceeds from tickets and the auction will go to support the Harry Potter Alliance, an international social activism group.

Tickets to the Hogwarts Hootenanny are $30 for adults and $15 for OCU students and kids up to age 15.
