Mitt Romney recently divulged in his tax release that there were deductions he had elected not to take. On face value, one could assume Mitt was just paying his fair share. I do not make that assumption.

Like all good water muddiers, there is a grain of truth in their arguments. Tom Furlong (Letters, “No sympathy for professor,” April 13, Gazette) credits Jimmy Carter with the beginning of the end of unions.

Jason Reese (Commentary, “Can it happen here?,” March 3, Oklahoma Gazette) starts out his argument with an opinion stated as fact. Reese states that “the only viable answer” is to convert defined benefit pensions to defined contribution pensions, and that “collective bargaining rights” are “the root of the problem.”
