The Tallgrass Prairie Preserve north of Pawhuska is the largest
native tallgrass prairie protected on the planet. Prior to settlement,
the prairie was one of North America’s biggest ecosystems, spanning 142
million acres and 14 states from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico.
