Young Lyons — Crash Course EP

Indie

Louis Fowler
The first time I heard Weezer was a magical moment. It was early-September 1994 and I was in the parking lot of a Catholic church making out with a girl I had desperately been trying to hook up with for weeks.

Disorderlies

Filmed in 3-D, only the ‘D’ stands for ‘diabetes.’

Comedy

Louis Fowler
As someone who is doing his damnedest to lose more than three decades of weight gain, it has taken years of self-inflicted embarrassment to fully realize that “all you can eat” isn't a challenge, but a curse.

Word on the street

The Curbside Chronicle aims to bring the homeless into your homes, one issue at a time.

News

Louis Fowler
A new newspaper has hit the streets of Oklahoma City, one that is made and sold by the people who live on the streets. The Curbside Chronicle is the metro’s attempt at a social enterprise magazine, also called a “street paper,” that provides an area’s homeless community with both a voice and a means of income.

Aisha Eustache — Love & Addiction

Eclectic

Louis Fowler
These days, it’s hard to find that classically soulful R&B sound. With so many manufactured pop divas’ vocal trills and high-pitched squeaks masquerading as music, R&B sadly has become a vapid wasteland.

Kali Ra — Electric Living

Rock

Louis Fowler
Dressing in black and smoking Clove cigarettes may be in my past, but my love of darkly introspective music has stayed, no matter my mood. It’s not unusual to see me smiling while blasting The Cure’s Faith, David Bowie’s Low or, now, Oklahoma City act Kali Ra’s debut, Electric Living.

Mountain Smoke — Roads Well Traveled

Country

Louis Fowler
As I plopped Mountain Smoke’s Roads Well Traveled into the CD player, I dreaded the worst, having been burnt out by a glut of third-rate bluegrass (with jam bands running a close second). I was surprised how much I liked — nay, loved — this album.

Nina Medley — Red Dirt Redemption

Eclectic

Louis Fowler
Bethany blues chanteuse Nina Medley is, if the title track of her latest album is to be believed, “worn out on the Delta blues” and just looking for some “red dirt redemption.”

What works:
There is a wide selection of food that you normally don’t see on a buffet.
What needs work:
The food goes fast. Larger quantities of popular items might help.
Tip(s):
Start with a salad before going right to the meats.
