"Cosi fan tutte"
8 p.m., Friday October 05
Composed in 1790, one year before his death, Mozart's darkly comic opera
was written under the title Cosi fan tutte, ossia La scuola degli
amanti - "Women are all alive, or The School for Lovers." The story is
spiced with twisted undertones of love and deception when two men test
the fidelity of their fiancees by disguising themselves as persistent
foreign suitors. With Le nozze di Figaro and Don Giovanni, the opera is
part of Mozart's trilogy with librettist Lorenzo Da Ponte recognized as
among the greatest operatic masterpieces ever written.
