Crystal Bridge Free Admission
The Myriad Botanical Gardens’ Crystal Bridge Tropical Conservatory will offer FREE admission to all guests on Monday, July 4 in celebration of Independence Day. Hours are 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for people to come down and experience the new gardens,” said manager Allan Storjohann. “The Crystal Bridge is open to the public, and a large portion of the outdoor grounds are complete and ready for visitors.”
The Myriad Botanical Gardens is in the final stages of a $36 million renovation, funded through the 2007 General Obligation Bond and the City’s Project 180 initiative.
New outdoor elements at the Gardens include a grand event lawn and wave fountain, plus multiple new seating areas and water features. Still to open later in the year are the children’s garden and interactive fountain, dog release area, restaurant, seasonal plaza, plus a brand new visitors’ information center on the south side of the Crystal Bridge.
The Crystal Bridge has also been renovated. Between April and December of 2010, contractors removed over 3,000 acrylic panels that make up the conservatory’s exterior, then cleaned and repainted the building’s steel structure before adding new panels. The work took almost eight months to complete. The result is a clearer view looking in and out of the conservatory.
Visitors are advised to use the north entrance of the Crystal Bridge, near the band shell, while work on the visitor information center is being completed.
“Response to the renovations has been terrific so far,” Storjohann said. “We’re still a few months out from having everything finalized, but we welcome the opportunity to show people how far we’ve come in a short amount of time.”
A multi-day grand opening to celebrate the Gardens is scheduled for mid-October.
The Myriad Botanical Gardens is located at Reno and Robinson in downtown Oklahoma City. Crystal Bridge hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
