OKC Improv

8, 10 p.m., Saturday January 12
OKC Improv continues to tickle the city’s funny bone with two comedy shows Saturday, Jan. 12, at the Broadway Theater, 1613 N. Broadway Ave. Shows are at 8 and 10 p.m.

“Improv is an amazing experience. No matter how many times you watch, you’ll never see the same show twice,” said Buck Vrazel, artistic director of OKC Improv.

The 8 p.m. show features the world premiere of a new troupe, the Night Rhymers, whose actors and musicians completely improvise a musical cabaret, with music and lyrics created on the spot. Next are the Whose Line is it Anyway?-style games of Spiked Punch Lines. The show will finish with the acclaimed silent comedy masterminds of ZOOM!

The 10 p.m. show kicks off with the alternate universe fun of Hindsight, followed by the political satire of Red State, Blue State who have played for audiences in Colorado and Kansas, and demonstrate that no matter your political leanings, politics can be riotously funny.  Finishing out the show are renowned musical troupe, Villain: The Musical, who create epic musicals reminiscent of the best days of Broadway.

Show prices for the 8 p.m. are $15 and $12 for the 10 p.m.  An OKC Improv show is always free the week of your birthday (with ID). Tickets can be purchased online at Shows regularly sell out, so advance ticket purchases are encouraged. Performances continue every Saturday night through January 26.

Since 2009, OKC Improv has been entertaining and delighting local audiences with dynamic improvisation and sketch comedy shows. Oklahoma’s improv scene has exploded in growth, from five performing groups in 2009 to more than 40 today.

Local improv troupes create original, never-before-seen comedy shows based on audience suggestions. It’s never the same spectacle twice, which led The Oklahoman to rave that OKC Improv “puts Oklahoma City on the map for comedy.”

OKC Improv is a non-profit community arts organization dedicated to building a thriving and sustainable improv scene by providing performance opportunities for area improvisers and by working to raise awareness and understanding of improv as an art form through publicity, outreach and education.
