Who is the fittest in Oklahoma? That question will be answered at the CrossFit “Fittest in OK” competition, to be held as part of the Sooner State Games, a 2 day event in Oklahoma City’s Coca Cola Event Center. Sooner State Games is Oklahoma’s premiere Olympic-Style amateur Sports Festival whose mission is to enhance Oklahoma's effort to unite all communities across the state through sport, health, and wellness. There are currently over 11,000 Oklahomans participating in the Sooner State Games, as well as the winter version of the games. Based on the Olympic format and officially endorsed by the United States Olympic Committee, the Sooner State Games is open to every amateur athlete in our state, regardless of age, sex or ability.
From January 26-27, CrossFitters from across the state will be competing in events combining Olympic weight lifting, gymnastics, and cardio training – going head to head in grueling workouts meant to push the limits of physical and mental endurance. Several Oklahoma based companies, including Sportsmith Fitness Equipment, SandRidge Energy, CrossFit 405, and Meridian Drilling Company, are all sponsoring the event, as well as national companies like Concept2 and the United States Air Force Recruiters.
“This event is open to all Oklahoma CrossFitters and athletes, so the winning teams and individuals will really be able to lay claim to the title, ‘Fittest in OK,’ said event coordinator Aaron O’Neil. “I think every CrossFit box thinks they have the best competitor team, or the toughest guys and girls in the state. This is their chance to prove it. And for those who are just looking for a good time, or to see what the competitive side of CrossFit is all about, they’ll get plenty of that too.”
Fittest in OK will include both individual and team competitions, as well as divisions for prescribed (“RX’d”) weights, scaled weight, a masters division (40-49 years old), and masters plus (50 and over). Registration costs are $75 for an individuals and $250 for a team before January 9; costs go up to $85 for individuals and $275 for teams afterwards. Teams can register and get more information about the event at www.fittestinok.com. The event is open to anyone interested, and winners of each division will receive prizes from the various sponsors of the event.
Food and drinks will be available on site. Spectator tickets are $10 each for both days and include a drink ticket and a raffle ticket for door prizes. Parking is available across the street from the Coca Cola Event Center for $5, and several hotels in Oklahoma City’s Bricktown District are a short walk away.
