Skywriters
6:30, 7:30 p.m., Friday February 22
Here is a preview of a chapbook/program I'm going to give to people for the screening of my first movie, a doc short on two notable personalities and musicians. Maybe someone on your staffs will find it interesting, if no for no other reason than one of the guys is a fresh Grammy nominee.
I shot this having pretty good rapport with the guys and having never made a film before. It's not perfect, but it's not bad either. The music carries it and the stories. The influence for my folk music thesis statement can be found in James Agee's document Let Us Now Praise Famous Men, more of a protest document than mine. Also insanely writte while this is a work of interviewing. But it did compell me to look for two places to film. Rural Oklahoma and Inner city Oklahoma, and these two artists where those environments completely. The end project is an interesting finding, soul music I think. The title is a reference to the Jimmy Webb composition Skywriter
The booklet isn't completed but I'm sending you the incomplete copy so any potential writers (blurb or story) can see where I'm coming from.
There are two showings Friday February 22 at the Paramount. 6:30 and 7:30. A Q and A with me and Jabee Williams at 8, and a coffee shop style performance by Jabee at 9. Free, in the spirit of Agee with donations accepted. John can't make it but his girlfriend will be helping with donations.
Thanks a mil guys, and forward this to anyone.
