Registration is open for the 17th Annual Creek Classic, held on Saturday, March 2, 2013.  The run kicks off at 8:30 a.m. at Deer Creek Intermediate School, located at 21175 North MacArthur in Edmond, and features a one mile fun run, a 5K and a 10K. 

 

“Creek Classic is an annual event that is a district wide fundraiser for Deer Creek Schools,” said Keri Shipley with Creek Classic.  “However, this year’s Creek Classic is excited to donate $2.50 per registered runner to the Regional Food Bank’s Food for Kids Backpack Program.  By partnering with the Regional Food Bank, we will be able to help provide food to thousands of local students each year.”

 

Registration starts at $25 per individual and $90 for a family of five.  Runners of all ages and skill levels are encouraged to participate.  Each race registration receives a t-shirt, a pancake breakfast and access to a virtual goodie bag filled with great promotions and coupons.

“Creek Classic attracts runners from all over the state and continues to grow each year,” said Shipley.  “Last year more than 2,500 runners who participated in this race.  So far, more than 800 runners have signed up and we are anticipating more runners this year.  The money raised from this event will benefit every school, student and teacher in our district!”

In the past, the money raised from this event has helped Deer Creek Schools purchase items such as: iPads, smart boards, text books, library books, mobile lap top computers, continuing education for teachers, playground equipment, software, sound systems and much more.

NBC’s The Biggest Loser Season 11 contestants Dan and Don Evans are joining the 5K race. They have made appearances at Deer Creek elementary schools to share their story of health, and fitness and invite students to join them at Creek Classic. Denice Hurlbut from the Regional Food Bank, along with the Deer Creek High School Track and Cross Country Runners are also traveling to Elementary Schools to talk about hunger and running.
