Spring Break Escape
Engage your senses as you
spring into the natural and cultural history of Oklahoma during the Sam Noble
Museum’s Spring Break Escape, Monday through Friday, March 18 through 22.
Spring Break Escape offers
opportunities for exploration and fun on a budget with daily activities
including crafts, auditorium shows, storytelling, scavenger hunts and more, all
complimentary with paid museum admission.
Each day is filled with new
and exciting adventures. Monday highlights Oklahoma’s wildlife. Learn about and
touch real zoo animals and develop awareness for the natural world with the
Oklahoma City Zoo, then learn all about birds in an amazing interactive show
presented by the Sutton Avian Research Center.
Tuesday is all about bugs! Build
and decorate your own bugs, learn where to find butterflies, how to observe and
attract them and about butterfly conservation, then explore the collection
tables filled with bugs and other specimens.
On Wednesday, take part in
the Mad Science “Wacky Water Show,” featuring eye-popping, jaw-dropping actions
that show the perplexing properties of water. Discover crafty ways to use
fossils and view amazing specimens from the vertebrate paleontology collection.
Thursday is all about weather
and space! Use prisms to bend light and create a rainbow of colors and then
make your own rainbow to take home. National Weather Center representatives will
be present to demonstrate several weather-based principles to better explain
how the weather works. Audience members will have the opportunity to forecast,
experience the force of an air cannon and learn how to prepare for severe
weather.
The week concludes with a plethora of activities from Native American cultures. Watch an educational, informational and entertaining traditional American Indian tribal dance, then enjoy traditional Native American storytelling by Jacobson House director Kricket Rhodes.
Most programs are geared for
families with children ages 4 and up, unless otherwise noted below. Though all
programs are complimentary with museum admission, space is limited in some
programs (see full schedule). Passes for these programs may be picked up at the
museum information desk the day of the event. All programs will be filled on a
first-come basis.
