Sugar Free Allstars
The Oklahoma City Philharmonic offers the final performance of the BancFirst Discovery Family Series on Sunday, April 7, 2013, at 2PM in a concert starring the SUGAR FREE ALLSTARS at the OKC Civic Center, 201 N. Walker Ave. Known in OKC and throughout the country for their bluesy, funk-driven sound, Sugar Free Allstars joins with a symphony orchestra for the first time for a high-energy show. The duo will perform some of their signature tunes that have been arranged to include full orchestra including "Banana Pudding," "Gotta Get Up," "He's Okay (the Spider Song)" and more.
Featured in Time Magazine, NPR’s “Car Talk,” Parent’s Magazine and on the 2011 Grammy Award winning Best Children’s Album “All About Bullies Big and Small,” Sugar Free Allstars is the dynamic duo of Chris “Boom!” Wiser and Rob “Dr. Rock” Martin. The Oklahoma City-based duo performs children's music with a style that blends Memphis Soul, New Orleans Funk and a strong dance beat. With lyrics that include a snappy wit along with silly fun, Sugar Free Allstars will entertain every member of the family.
Orchestrating and arranging the rock-funk music of the Sugar Free Allstars duo is OKC musician Nathan Siler. Siler is well-known in the Oklahoma City rock music scene as the founder and bass player for the Woody Award-winning rock band, The Fellowship Students. A graduate of Oklahoma City University in Music Composition, Siler is creating the orchestra parts to make this collaboration possible.
Designed for children ages 4 to 13, the one-hour concerts of the Discovery Family Series are the perfect way to introduce children to a variety of orchestra music with fast-paced and entertaining programs and pre-concert activities that offer musical activities and crafts.
Matt Troy leads the OKC Philharmonic in the third and final concert of the 2012-13 Discovery Family Series. This performance is sponsored by the Ad Astra Foundation with additional support from the Allied Arts Foundation and the Oklahoma Arts Council. The concert is presented in honor of The Children's Center in Bethany, Oklahoma.
