Sensuality and Spectrum
Utilizing a palette of bright, vivid hues, and creamy light neutrals, Yun Hendricks' mixed media paintings have an inviting tactile quality. Her subjects are both figurative and abstract. With the former, Hendricks strategically incorporates bits of brightly colored fabric accentuating a beguiling face or pose. Her abstract paintings possess a landscape quality (many echoing her native Korea) in which lines and shapes emerge and then blend, teasing the eye from shape to shape in rhythmic patterns. As Hendricks explains, “In my abstract pieces, lines and forms lose definition, but still convey a visually sumptuous landscape.”
Versatile three-dimensional artist Jieun Kim creates jewelry both dramatic and fanciful using materials of colored polymer clay or iridescent beads. Kim composes distinctive earrings and necklaces of rounded organic forms in colors suggestive of earth and sky. Kim also enjoys embellishing functional items, such as crystal wine goblets and stoneware coffee mugs, celebrating life’s relaxed moments.
