Run for the Dream

8:30 a.m., Saturday April 13
On Saturday, April 13th, 2013, the Beautiful Dream Society  will host its third annual Run for the Dream  2K, 5K and 10K races to raise funds and awareness for the opening of an Oklahoma safe house for victims of human trafficking and to help the fight against modern day slavery around the world.

Run for the Dream began in 2010 to gain community involvement and create partnerships and opportunities for charitable donations for its founding organization, the Beautiful Dream Society.

The Beautiful Dream Society was birthed out of a literal dream by Victory Church Co-Pastor Jennifer Crow in 2009. Crow had a dream in which the letters L-E-S-T-H-O, was spelled out vividly. She began to research the meaning of this word and discovered Lesotho was a small country in South Africa where thousands of young men, women and children were bought and sold into slavery. Crow knew that immediate action was necessary.

“I visited Lesotho in 2009 and found there was not a shelter or safe house for victims of human trafficking in the entire country of Lesotho--in fact, human trafficking was not even defined as a crime in Lesotho until 2011.” says, Crow of the Beautiful Dream Society.

In December 2010, the Beautiful Dream Safe House was opened to provide an organized structure to take a stand against human trafficking with victim relief, perpetrator accountability, victim after-care, and structural prevention. Shortly after establishing the Beautiful Dream Society Corporate Headquarters in Oklahoma in 2010, they were made aware of the severity of human trafficking in their home state. This summer, the Beautiful Dream Society will become a global organization by opening its first US center for trafficked survivors in Oklahoma City.

Oklahomans of all ages can take part in the fight against modern day slavery by running or walking in the Run for the Dream 2K, 5K and 10K event taking place Saturday, April 13th, 2013 at 8:30 a.m. at Windsurfer Park at Lake Hefner in Oklahoma City.
