Brightmusic Chamber Ensemble
On May 18, 19, 21 and 23, Oklahoma City’s own Brightmusic Chamber Ensemble will present a four-concert Festival of the beloved Romantic music of Franz Schubert and four of his “Friends” – Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Carl Maria von Weber, Bernard Henrik Crusell and American composer Christopher Theofanidis. Mr. Theofanidis’ new work – jointly commissioned by Brightmusic and the prestigious Chamber Music Northwest of Portland, Oregon – will receive its world premiere at the May 21 Festival concert.
The world-renowned clarinetist David Shifrin will appear as the Festival’s guest artist, to perform the May 19 and 21 concerts, including the world premiere of Mr. Theofanidis’ composition. Mr. Shifrin is the Artistic Director of Chamber Music Northwest; a Member and former Artistic Director of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center; and the Professor of Chamber Music at Yale University. He has made many appearances at the OK Mozart Festival in Bartlesville. He last appeared with Brightmusic in OKC in September 2010.
Festival Concerts 1 and 2 – Saturday night, May 18 and Sunday afternoon, May 19 – will be performed at St. Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral downtown. Concerts 3 and 4 – Tuesday night, May 21 and Thursday night, May 23 – will be performed at All Souls’ Episcopal Church in northwest OKC. Admission is $10 per concert for adults; students with ID and Season 10 members are free of charge. A Festival Pass for all four concerts will be available online for $30/person, as well as at the door to the first night’s concert.
