Friday June 14
2013 marks the return of OU’s 35-year running internationally known Clarinet Symposium. The 3-day event is scheduled for Thursday, June 13 through Saturday, June 15, in OU’s Catlett Music Center. Registration is open to any level of clarinetist or music lover. Registration information is available online ouclarinetsymposium.ou.edu or by calling 405-325-7466.

Dr. Suzanne Tirk, OU assistant professor of clarinet, is proud to announce the symposium’s return.

“We are pleased to announce that the 36th annual University of Oklahoma Clarinet Symposium will be taking place June 13-15, 2013. This annual musical event has a long tradition of hosting world-class performances, master-classes, and exhibits for clarinetists of all ages and levels.”

This year’s symposium will pay tribute to founder and former David Ross Boyd Professor of Clarinet, Dr. David Etheridge.

“We are looking forward to welcoming Dr. Etheridge's former students, friends, and family to this year's event. Thanks to his efforts, Norman, Oklahoma, is known in the clarinet world as a must-visit destination. To celebrate his legacy, we are holding a special Tribute from 3:30pm to 5:30pm on Friday, June 14, 2013, in Paul F. Sharp Concert Hall at Catlett Music Center on the University of Oklahoma main campus. This event is free and open to the public. Former students, friends, and clarinet colleagues will be speaking and performing.”

Evening concerts are open to the public featuring Gregory Raden, Principal Clarinet of the Dallas Symphony, and International soloists: David Shifrin, Charles Neidich, and József Balogh. Tickets for this year’s five evening concerts go on sale at the door one hour before each evening performance. A complete schedule of events is available at ouclarinetsymposium.ou.edu. Individual evening concert tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for seni ors and students (with ID). A special concert package for all five concerts is $42 for adults and $35 for seniors and students.
