J. A. Reed, Jr. Community Summer Camp
Parents and youth in Oklahoma City can take advantage of a low-cost summer day camp scheduled to begin June 3 and run through August 9. The J. A. Reed, Jr. Community Summer Camp is entering its third year of operation; over 250 youth benefited for the 2012 session. The camp is sponsored by the Fairview Missionary Baptist Church and located at on the church grounds at 1700 N. E. 7th Street. It is open to youth throughout the community.
The schedule is Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. Cost for participation for youth aged 6 through 17 is a minimal donation of $10 per child, per week for families with one to two children. Families with three or more children attending would pay $5 per child, per week. This year’s session will include a Toddler Camp for children one through five years of age. Donation for toddlers is $35 per child, per week.
Breakfast and lunch will be served daily. Activities for 6 through 17 year olds include weekly field trips, Bible challenges, fine arts, life skills training, sports activities, arts and crafts, tutoring, guest speakers, other wholesome, educational activities. Participants and their parents will also be invited to participate in the Camp’s Summer Finale. Toddler benefits include breakfast, lunch and snack, learning zone, field trips, toddler ball and more.
“We have parents who are struggling financially and we have children with nothing to do during the summer. This is one way that Fairview can help by providing a place for our youth to participate in wholesome activities,” stated Senior Pastor J. A. Reed, Jr. “We want to keep it affordable for the families. We’re not going to worry about how we will pay for it; God will make up the difference,” continued Dr. Reed.
Applications can be completed online through the church website at www.fairviewokc.com, Quick Clicks Summer Camp, or can be downloaded from the church website. Applications are also available at Fairview Baptist Church. Youth will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Parents should bring the completed application and payment on the first day of enrolling the child(ren) in day camp.
Camp staff is accepting individual and corporate donations of money, foods and supplies (arts and crafts, woodwork, small toiletries, etc.) in order to keep the costs to families at a minimum. Checks should be made payable to Fairview Baptist Church with a memo indication of Summer Camp.
Children residing is the Moore area are invited to attend the camp at no charge. Interested parents should bring the child(ren)’s transcript or other identification that reflects the school attended.
