9 a.m.-4 p.m., Friday June 28

This summer, your child can join other eight to twelve year olds at Artworks, a summer arts day camp.  Imagine your child choreographing dances, sculpting works of art, helping to write a musical or creating characters and dialogue for a theatre performance.

Artworks is proud to announce that the LEGO classes introduced last year have been expanded for this summer.  Now in addition to robotics, students will have the option of LEGO construction classes.

Artworks is open for enrollment for children aged eight through twelve.  Three two-week sessions will be held:  June 10 - June 21, June 24 - July 5 and July 8 – July 19.  For many years,   Artworks was held at Stage Center in downtown Oklahoma City.  Due to the flooding three years ago, the twenty-sixth season of Artworks will take place in its new location at First Christian Church on NW 36th and Walker in Oklahoma City.

Day campers will be able to study dance, music, drawing, painting, sculpting, theatre, robotics and LEGO construction.  Along with fun arts classes are camp activities such as cookouts and daily recreation. Guest artists join the faculty of professional artists/teachers for special performances.

Artworks instructors are members of the Oklahoma Arts Council Artist-in-Residence program or are public school artists/teachers.  The faculty includes dance instructor  Tonya Kilburn; visual arts teachers Rebecca Lowber Collins and Adrienne Day; theatre teachers Rhonda Clark and Doobie Potter; LEGO teacher Carla Ford.  Becky Clinton directs the program.

“I would have loved to come to Artworks when I was a kid,” said Rhonda Clark, who has taught theatre at Artworks since it began twenty-six years ago.  “Summer vacation can get boring after a while, but Artworks doesn’t.  You learn how artists think and create and stay busy with what’s fun.”

Artworks is a non-profit program of Children’s Arts Network and is partially funded by the Oklahoma Arts Council.  Camp meets from 9 AM to 4 PM Monday through Friday, with extended hours available from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM.  Financial aid is available based on need.  For more information or a brochure, call director Becky Clinton at 650-3862 or register online at
