Women Call for Peace: Global Vistas

None
Friday June 28

Women rarely incite violence yet they suffer its devastating impact and take responsibility for helping to end such violent conflicts.

Women Call for Peace will be on view in The Gallery at OCCC, Thursday, June 27 through Thursday, August 29.

The thirty three works in the exhibition—paintings, sculptures and prints—offer stunningly beautiful but powerful statements of the artists’ commitment to peace on all fronts—personal, political, domestic, and international.

In this new millennium—which holds the promise of global interconnectedness—the inclination toward violence and need for resolution have never been more evident. These women make the case for worldwide peace all the more compelling because of the range of religious beliefs, racial identities, and personal encounters with violence that they represent. Their art reflects their dedication to social reform and ongoing efforts to sensitize and inform audiences about these social and political issues.

Gallery hours are M-F, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Admission is free. The Gallery is located inside the OCCC Visual and Performing Arts Center (7777 S. May Avenue), located on the west side of campus. For additional information, visitwww.occc.edu/CP

Women Call for Peace is curated by Lisa E. Farrington, Ph.D., Professor and Founding Chair of the Department of Art and Music at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, City University of New York.
