The Stage Door Theater, 601 Oak Street in Yukon, is pleased to announce its summer theater camp, Imagination Academy. Loosely based on the parameters of Odyssey of the Mind, children from ages 8-18 will participate in activities designed to increase awareness and appreciation of theater. Students will be divided into groups of five or six and given a well-known fairy tale and a time frame different than what was originally written. Through classes that cover various aspects of the theatre, such as set design, costuming, characterization, and make-up, they will develop and perform a short production at the end of the camp.
There will be several guest clinicians for Imagination Academy, including Beth Burton and Frieda Penn, who have both won Golden Door Awards for their set designs, costume designs, and characters. Other clinicians include Julia McDonald, who taught the academy last summer and just finished directing the very successful “There’s a Monster in my Closet,” Amanda Chatelain, local actress and teacher, and Kelli Cantrell, Stage Door board member and show producer.
Imagination Academy will be held July 8-19, 2013 from 8 a.m. until noon, Monday through Friday. The academy performance will be July 19 at 7:00 p.m.
The cost is $150.00 per student. There is a price break for multiple children from the same family. Contact The Stage Door at 265-1590 for more information if this is a possibility for your family.
Students may sign up for Imagination Academy by visiting the website at www.stagedooryukon.com and paying their enrollment fee. Payment can also be made by cash or check by contacting the theater at the above mentioned number (leave a message). Payment must be made by the close of the first day of class for a student to participate.
