Unnecessary Farce Audition
2:30 p.m., Saturday July 20
Carpenter Square Theatre will hold auditions for the first show of its 30th Anniversary Season, the comedy “Unnecessary Farce” by Paul Slade Smith. Readings from the script will be held on Saturday, July 20 beginning at 2:30 p.m. at 806 W. Main in the rehearsal studio located next door to the theater. Additional readings will begin at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, July 21.
Director Rhonda Clark seeks three women and four men aged 20s to 70s. Those auditioning should bring a recent photo and resume. Performances will be September 6-28 with rehearsals beginning August 5.
Playwright Smith sets the action in a cheap motel room where an embezzling mayor is supposed to meet with his female accountant, while in the adjoining room, two undercover cops wait to catch the meeting on videotape. Of course, confusion ensues as to who's in which room, who's being videotaped, who's taken the money, who's hired a hit man, and why the accountant keeps undressing. The fast-paced romp is full of mix-ups and mayhem, and it all adds up to loads of laughter!
