Selfies/Buddha Tuesdays

None
11 a.m.-4 p.m., Thursday February 20
Selfies, the smartphone-snapped images sprayed across Instagram, Facebook and Twitter, reached worldwide ubiquity with the masses in 2013, but self-portraits have been a staple of visual artists' practices for centuries.

The other half of the main gallery space will feature Buddha Tuesdays, a collection of work from Linda Lou Warren, Kay Hoke-Evans, Charlotte Gibbens and Lacy Leverett-Saak. The artists will be displaying the products of a weekly lunch date turned creative exercise: Small Buddha sculptures, corpse drawings, painted clay canvases and a variety of other items born of each individual's talents.

The opening reception will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. on Friday, February 14 at MAINSITE Contemporary Art, 122 E. Main, Norman, Okla. in conjunction with February's 2nd Friday Circuit of Art. The exhibit will run through Saturday, March 15 with a closing reception scheduled from 6 to 10 p.m. on Friday, March 14.

MAINSITE Contemporary Art is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Visitmainsite-art.com for more information on the gallery.

For further information on Selfie or Buddha Tuesdays, to arrange an interview with one of the artists or to request high-resolution images, please contact Joshua Boydston atjoshb@normanarts.org.
