On March 10-11, 2014, Oklahoma City's own Brightmusic Chamber Ensemble will present two performances of the fourth concert of our 2013-14 Season, “Transcendental Doxology.” This program features Oklahoma City native Joshua Roman – one of America’s most exciting young cellists – as our guest artist. Joshua was home-schooled in OKC. He entered the Cleveland Institute of Music at age 16, received his BM at age 20 and his MM at age 21, and won the principal cello chair in the Seattle Symphony Orchestra at age 22. After two years in that position, he moved to New York City and embarked on a successful career as a freelance concert cellist, composer, curator and programmer. He has performed with orchestras and chamber ensembles, and has given solo recitals, worldwide. Brightmusic is delighted to host his first professional appearance in Oklahoma City! The program features three works from the Romantic Era of classical music: (1) Robert Schumann’s Adagio and Allegro, op. 70 (for cello and piano); (2) Felix Mendelssohn’s Piano Trio No. 2 in C Minor, op. 66 (for piano, violin and cello); and (3) Franz Schubert’s String Quintet in C Major, op. post., D.956 for two violins, viola and two cellos). Five Brightmusic musicians will appear with Joshua at this concert: Gregory Lee (violin), Samuel Formicola (violin), Mark Neumann (viola), Tomasz Zieba (cello) and guest pianist Stephen Buck, Chair of the Piano Department at the SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Music. The performances will take place: (1) at 7:30 pm on Monday, March 10th Souls’ Episcopal Church, 6400 N. Pennsylvania Ave.) and (2) at 7:30 pm on Tuesday, March 11th downtown OKC (at St. Paul’s Cathedral, 127 NW 7th person (students with ID are free). Season membership information is available on Brightmusic’s website, www.brightmusic.org. A reception with the guest artist and the Brightmusic musicians will
follow each performance of this concert. in northwest OKC (at All Street). Individual concert admission is $15 person.
