Civilized Tribe Dixieland Band
The University of Central Oklahoma will present a Mardi Gras-themed concert featuring the Civilized Tribe Dixieland Band at 7:30 p.m. March 4 at the UCO Jazz Lab, 100 E. Fifth Street in Edmond.
This concert is an annual crowd favorite of the School of Music’s Faculty Artist Concert Series, a yearlong performance series that highlights the talents of Central music faculty members. All performances take place on Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m. at the Jazz Lab with proceeds supporting scholarships and the UCO School of Music.
The show will take place on Fat Tuesday – or Mardi Gras – and will include a wide variety of traditional New Orleans jazz compositions.
“It’s the recognizable music people associate with Mardi Gras,” said Brian Gorrell, head of UCO’s Jazz Studies Division and saxophonist/clarinetist for the Civilized Tribe Dixieland Band.
The Civilized Tribe Dixieland Band is a jazz combo featuring current and former Central music faculty members: trumpet player Lee Rucker, trombonist Jeff Kidwell, pianist Dennis Borycki, guitarist Danny Vaughan, bassist Michael Geib, D.M., and drummer David Hardman.
“This concert with our faculty Dixieland group is fun for all ages,” added Rucker.
Tickets are $10 and can be purchased by calling the UCO School of Music at 405-974-5004. Admission is free for Central students, faculty and staff with a Central I.D.
