An original dansical will premiere in Oklahoma City Community College’s (OCCC) Bruce Owen Theater, April 12 at 8 p.m. titled Blue Ballet.
Actually not a ballet, but rather a satire set in a blues nightclub, the production is termed a dansical because it tells a story built on dance with live instrumental and vocal music. The plot revolves around a heroine and her friends looking for love in a nightclub.
Written and choreographed by Elizabeth Hobi with musical collaboration by OCCC music professor Terry Isaacs, the production includes blues and contemporary music, as well as an original composition by OCCC music student, Stanley Hall. In addition, all music will be performed by the OCCC Blues Band. Dance Theatre OKC as well as community, social, and professional dancers will also perform. Dance styles on stage will include jazz, ballet, modern dance and swing.
The production is a short work with no intermission.
General admission is $10 and tickets are available at the door. Admission is free for OCCC students.
