The Onion

7 p.m., Wednesday April 16
CAC Speakers Bureau is pleased to announce that The Onion will be on OU’s campus April 16, 2014. Two representatives from the newspaper will be speaking at 7 PM in the Molly Shi Boren Ballroom in the Union. This event will be free to students, open to the community and will have free food and drinks. Following the presentation, there will be a meet and greet at 8:30 on the 3rd floor landing of the Union.

The Onion is an award-winning online satirical news organization that has attracted millions of loyal fans drawn to its fearless reporting and scathing commentary on world events, human behavior, and journalistic convention. The presentation will feature two members of the creative staff offering the audience an intimate glimpse inside the writers’ room of America’s Finest News Source. The Onion brings humor and intellect into every live engagement. The talented writers and editors will walk the audience through the history of the satirical news behemoth, taking them behind the scenes of the most famous headlines.

Founded in 1988 as a student newspaper at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, The Onion has been described as “arguably the most popular humor periodical in world history” and “the funniest site on the internet” by The New Yorker and TIME, respectively. On average, TheOnion.com attracts 15 million unique visitors per month and is a 23-time Webby Award-winning website.

From providing the nation with the day’s most critical headlines to taking the stage in towns all across America, Onion staffers strive toward the same goal: to mercilessly and equally mock the right and the left, the strong and the weak, the upper crust of society and the pathetic, unwashed masses.

CAC Speakers Bureau is proud to bring national speakers of a wide and varied background. As well as hosting these speaking engagements, Speakers Bureau also funds student groups who desire to bring special speakers to campus.
