End of School Sensory Friendly Dance Party

6 p.m., Saturday May 24
The Music Moves Mountains Foundation's All Abilities Rock program is offering a "sensory-friendly" end-of-school dance party on Saturday, May 24th at 6pm at Sonder Music, Dance and Art in Norman. This musical experience is designed for those with sensory issues or special needs (low sound levels, no strobe lights, intimate setting, inclusive and accessible), but all are encouraged to attend this free, all ages community event.  Special guest host musician/dancer James Reynolds will be leading the evening with demonstrations of moves from around the globe.  Music will include selections from the '40s to today's favorites.  Donations will be accepted to benefit the All Abilities Rock program.

The All Abilities Rock program serves special populations with either developmental disorders such as Autism, Asperger's, and Sensory Processing Disorder or other challenges and disabilities.  Consideration is taken and adapted according to the needs of those who typically are unable to participate in public musical events or classes due to over-stimuli, crowdedness, or social and developmental issues. The purpose of the All Abilities Rock program is to provide alternative opportunities for all abilities to access music therapy, education and performance in a safe, understanding environment with experienced professionals.  It also serves as another avenue to promote self-expression, creativity, and fun times without judgment or extra pressure.

"Musical exposure and experience has been scientifically proven to promote motor and cognitive function, social interaction, behavioral regulation, auditory, speech and listening skills, as well as emotional connection and confidence, especially for those dealing with neurological or developmental disorders or disabilities." - MMMF
