The Vagina Monologues

None
2 p.m., Sunday June 08
Translated into over 48 languages, performed in over 140 countries, including 10 years in Mexico City and Paris, and sold-out runs at both Off-Broadway’s Westside Theater and London’s West End, the spellbinding, funny, and almost unbearably moving play, THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES, written by Eve Ensler, comes to The Pollard Theatre, June 6th - June 14th, and is the final production of the company's 27th Season: Our Voices.

"I bet you're worried. We were worried. We were worried about vaginas." So begins Eve Ensler's hilarious, eye-
opening tour into the last frontier, the forbidden zone at the heart of every woman. Adapted from the award-
winning one-woman show that's rocked audiences around the world, this groundbreaking evening of theatre gives voice to a chorus of lusty, outrageous, poignant, and thoroughly human stories, transforming the question
mark hovering over the female anatomy into a permanent victory sign. With a wildly divergent gathering of female voices, including a septuagenarian New Yorker, a vagina workshop participant, a woman who witnesses the birth of her granddaughter, a Bosnian survivor of rape, and a feminist happy to have found a man who “liked to look at it”, with laughter and compassion, THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES transports audiences to a world we've never dared to know, guaranteeing that no one whose seen it will ever look at a woman's body the same way again.

The Pollard Theatre Company has assembled a marvelous cast and production team which includes Pollard
veterans Elin Bhaird, Brenda Williams, Megan Montgomery, and directed by Timothy Stewart (Passing Strange, RENT) with scenic design by James A. Hughes, lighting design by W. Jerome Stevenson, costume design by Michael James, property design by Timothy Stewart and sound design by Jared Blount.

For veteran Pollard director, Timothy Stewart, the Vagina Monologues was a perfect fit. “I have always been
drawn to performance art; shows with a unique voice and signature. RENT and Passing Strange spoke to me because of their unique voices and the urgency of their messages and ideas. The Vagina Monologues was such a unique opportunity for me as a director. I would get to shape this story and find the universality that allows it to connect to audiences, even if they are initially nervous about the material. If we've been successful in our efforts, then the show will have an extraordinary ability to reach audiences regardless of gender. That's part of what makes it such an extraordinary night of theatre.”

THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES  runs June 6th through  June 14th at the Pollard Theatre. Tickets are $20 with
seniors, military, student and rush ticket discounts available. Performances are Fridays and  Saturdays at  8:00 pm, Thursday June 12th at 8:00 pm, and Sunday June 8th at  2:00 pm.
