Figments & Fragments

None
noon-5 p.m., Friday June 20
In Your Eye Gallery, in the Historic Paseo Arts District, presents "Figments & Fragments," an exhibit by mother and daughter artists Janice Mathews-Gordon and Elise Gordon, benefiting the Heels for Hope Foundation. The show opens Friday, June 6, from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm and continues through Saturday, June 28.

In this imaginative art exhibit of varied media and size, the two artists selected pieces from work created over the last few months that complement each other. Elise developed her diverse, compelling body of work in and out of University of Oklahoma visual arts classrooms, exploring oil and acrylic painting, ceramics and sculpture. Janice continued her recent experimentation combining pieces of shirts, ties, and scraps of painted papers with bold acrylic paint and loose charcoal lines.

As has been their pattern, the two artists continue to inspire each other and share both techniques and materials. As such, distinct similarities are evident. Both artists are drawn to bold colors and well-defined shapes; and both frequently employ symbolic elements in their compositions, including the human figure and suggestions of house and home.

Once again, the mother-daughter team will donate 10% of all proceeds from this show to the Heels for Hope Foundation, a local organization raising awareness of ovarian cancer. Heels for Hope also raises funds for Stephenson Cancer Center at OU Medical Center, which works to prevent, detect, treat and cure this silent, devastating disease.

Join us for a look into the imaginations of two artists through "Figments & Fragments," showing at In Your Eye Gallery from June 6-28. The gallery is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday from noon to 5:00 pm.
